I just wrote the most extensive blog post of my life and then it all got deleted. go figure, i dobn’t think i was built for this blogging thing.
well, here’s the bottom lines:
1) I’m interested in the conceptual differences in the American and Thai clutures as shown through trying to learn the Thai language. Example: i’ve met people who want to finish their food because they pity it- as in feel bad, but pity. different, right?
2) yesterday- repeled 40 Meters. rock climbed. Thai accident zip line. All with the Chiang Mai rock Climbing Association at Crazy Horse Buttress.
3) I’ve eaten dragon fruit every day since i’ve been here. every. day. We bought a pineapple the other day for 20 Baht. Roughly exchanges to 80 Cents in American.
4)My thai nickname given to me by my host family: Jan Jao. translation= the moon. uh, ok, i’ll take it. They couldn’t have made me happier. My host mom explained the reason was something about smiling when she sees me. Clearly, this was quite endearing.
5) Tomorrow; going to see the old capital of Lanna (Northern Thailand), and go to the Sunday walking street market.
6) the title of this post means, roughly, saturday everyone is happy and free!
